Course Title: Child Development Level 1/2 Certificate
R018: Students will develop the essential knowledge and understanding in child development, covering reproduction, parental responsibility, antenatal care, birth, postnatal checks, postnatal provision, and conditions for development, childhood illnesses and child safety.
RO19: Students will gain knowledge of the equipment needs of babies and young children and an understanding of the factors to be considered when choosing appropriate equipment to meet all of these needs. Students will also cover nutrition and hygiene practices.
R020: Students will gain an understanding of the development norms from birth to five years and the stages and benefits of play. Students will gain knowledge of, and skills in, developing activities to observe development norms in children up to the age of five.

R020: Understand the development of a child from birth to five years

Caring for Children
Exam Board: CACHE
Course Title: Level 1 Award / Certificate in Caring for Children
This qualification encourages an understanding of the knowledge and the skills needed to care for young children. It covers children’s growth, learning and development. There are a number of units and topics covered in this course and the units will be chosen by the teacher to suit the student’s interests.
Assessment: All units are assessed by the tutor via a portfolio of work and externally moderated by the exam board. This could include tasks such as designing charts or leaflets, coursework or methods such as oral questioning.
Grading system: This is a pass level course
Progression opportunities: Level 2 Child Care course in a post 16 setting
